The Sunday League team supported by Hulk Hogan, The Fonz… and Andi Peters

Ahead of their first ever cup final, Scottish Sunday team EK Milan have taken a novel approach to drumming up support…

The fan club of the average Sunday League team consists of an incredibly committed girlfriend who sometimes come along to watch and that old fella who occasionally walks his dog near the pitch.

EK Milan, an amateur side based in East Kilbride (just south of Glasgow), are a little different. Thanks to some serious graft on social media, they now have a fanbase that would make many Premier League teams envious.

At the end of last month, the Glasgow and District Sunday Football League side won their League Cup semi-final. In a fit of excitement, club chairman (and player – this is Sunday League, remember) Gary Henderson started sending tweets to famous folk, seeking out messages of support ahead of their big cup final on 14 Decemeber.

The results, in the words of Henderson, have been “incredible”.

Some big name former pros gave them the benefit of their experience

Pretty impressive, right? Those tweets were just the tip of the iceberg too – they were inundated with celebrity messages.

In fairness, the sheer number of tweets sent from the EK Milan Twitter account – they used the hashtag #FeelMilan – meant they were always likely to get plenty of responses.

It’s quite possible that every single famous person on the planet received one of their tweets.
